Who doesn't love holiday plague? And a 2017 review
Because I can, I'm blaming the 4 year old niece for giving me her ear infection on Christmas. Do I know for certain that's what I actually had? No, but I'm sticking with my story. Nearly two weeks later I'm now at the post-nasal-drip stage of things, and feeling better enough mentally that I want to do more than just sit and watch stuff, but lacking the actual energy to do it. Plus the heavy coughing/sneezing/nose!faucet isn't conducive to most activity either. So I've just been meandering through some knitting and embroidery the past day or two, basically depending on what room I'm in and what project is at hand. Very organized, let me tell you.
Anyway, my 2017 round up. I didn't feel like I'd made all that much over the course of the year, until I wrote it all down and realized I did do a fair amount. So here we go!
January!

I failed to get any photos of me wearing this, but I did take a few on my dressform, here! It's a crossover front with a dogleg opening, and removable long sleeves under the puffed oversleeve. The bodice is based of Diagram XXXVI from the Cut of Women's Clothes, with the small gathered shoulder piece. I thought it'd be a fun little detail to add in!
February:

1890s Not!Skating! Okay, I did a lap, but it had just been too long since I'd skated. I need to practice some more, and luckily there's a rink near my house that has year round public skating! Not that I've gone at all....
As for the outfit, I made the plaid skirt, self-supporting green petti, an underbust corset, and the cutest Tam in the world. And I wore it with purchased blouse, sweater, baschlik, gloves, and AD Manhattan boots. More pictures here!
Also February!

We visited the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge to see the Suffragette Bell. I used a 1916 pattern diagram for the skirt, and started a bodice to go with it, but it wound up on the naughty pile. So instead I paired it with a striped blouse and cardigan, and stole
mandie_rw 's hat to wear. Photos!
April

April started with the Big Ass Hat Tea, which called for a new gown and hat, of course! I've partially written up a post for this, so I'm not going to go into detail here. Album here!
The end of April we did (most of) a dress in a day at The Indian King Tavern, and I was in charge of the petticoat.
robinsnest was our model, and the finished gown was worn a week later, at the same time as my following outfit!
May:

After that came the candy Pet En L'air! My blog post on this is here, and the album of 3/4ths of the usual suspects swanning about Haddonfield is here!
June:

The WWII Weekend in Reading! I made my dress and purse for the event, but everything else was purchased. Post here.

June also featured the reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth. I was there as part of the DAR group, but of the eight of us at the table, five of us were dressed. I rewore my linen anglaise, but I did make a new lawn kerchief, small organza cap, and green bonnet.
September:

I made this anglaise, but have yet to wear it! It's a worsted wool, and the weather just did not cooperate for the wearing of it. Hopefully next year it will see the light of day. There are some construction shots here.
October:

Nothing new was needed until the 18th century market at Washington Crossing, in which we all went lower class! I used a navy/orange/white Homespun cotton from Joann's to make a quick and easy short gown, as well as a linen apron, market wallet, and a super derpy cap. If I ever need an unfortunate biggens someday I'm all set! I wore it with my small scissors, pinball of two different plaids, mustard petti and a Burnley&Trowbridge scarf. Because the more conflicting patterns, the better! We did of course turn it all around and silked it up for the dance that evening. Duh. Album.
November:

AKA SEW ALL THE 1860s.
I will finish my writeups for these, I swear.
December:

We did a Vintage not!tea in Center City, and for vintage I bought most of my outfit. The only thing I made for this was my jacket. I'd gone to a grab bag sale earlier this year and one of my grabs was this gorgeous wool/silk houndstooth in black and gold. I copied a 50s pattern, forget the exact year, to make this cute little banded jacket. It's flatlined with cotton flannel, and lined in rayon, and was surprisingly warm considering the weather it was worn in. I'm debating adding cuffs to it, just to add a little more visual interest to it. We'll see! The rest of my pictures from our very snowy downtown day are here! And yes, I totally went and got a plastic rain bonnet to wear. No shame!

As pretty much everyone knows, the latest Star Wars movie also came out in December. So when I found this fabric I knew I needed to make myself a skirt with it! It's a very simple skirt, just three panels and a waistband. I even remembered to buy a zipper for it before I left the store. I wore it over a basic organza petticoat, and because it was so cold, tights and boots rather than stockings.
Besides this I also got a tiny box loom and started tape weaving this year. Some pictures here!
I also did some knitting and crochet! Two pence jugs, a miser purse with bells, a pair of cuffs, and a sontag.

Anyway, my 2017 round up. I didn't feel like I'd made all that much over the course of the year, until I wrote it all down and realized I did do a fair amount. So here we go!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Big Ass Tea hat. And the other gigantic 18th century cap.
*sighs* I need costuming peeps who live closer to me and want to get up to shenanigans to motivate me to sew more often.

Having a local crew really does mean I get stuff done, mostly, because I didn't include any UFOs in my list for events that got cancelled for whatever reason. But if you're ever down in the Philly area you should hit us up!

And, I hear you on the plague. I think I have pretty much the same plague as you right now! Feel better soon! Both of us, actually! ;)

I'd be so happy to get back to like, 75% functioning at this point. Being sick sucks. And you feel better soon too!
